ICYMI, Ed Sheeran is currently gearing up to release his next album, Autumn Variations, on Sept. 29 — and what better way to do so than by playing a snippet of one of his brand-new songs to none other than … Courteney Cox?

On Thursday, the Grammy-winning singer shared a video on Instagram that showed him playing a section of the Friends-inspired song with the Friends star herself (while also reminding the world about their sweet, slightly unexpected friendship).

“Courteney, Courteney, Courteney. I wrote this song inspired by Friends, the show that you were on,” Sheeran said in the clip. “And I’m gonna play it to you if that’s alright. It’s called ‘American Town.’”

“We’re a long way from home / Haven’t seen you in so long/ But it all came back in one moment / And the year started cold / But I didn’t notice at all / When we found there’s a room we’re both in,” Ed sang, accompanied by his guitar, as Courteney sat nodding at her kitchen counter.

“We ate Chinese food in small white boxes / Live the life we saw in Friends / Your room it barely fits the mattress / Wake up, leave for work again / The wind it seems to blow right through us / Down jackets are the trend / the rush of rushin’ deep into love,” he continued.

After he had ended the song, Courteney asked, “Wait, that was really about the show Friends?” to which Ed clarified that it was “inspired” by the sitcom.

“Do I get paid?” Cox joked.

“Impromptu kitchen jam of American Town with my landlady @courteneycoxofficial,” Sheeran captioned the cute clip. “Sorry for the late rent, I’m good for it.”

While the pair’s friendship may come as a surprise to some (me, I am some), Courteney and Ed have actually been friends for over 10 years. In fact, the singer actually introduced Cox to her current boyfriend, Johnny McDaid, in 2013.

Sheeran’s next album will officially be released on Sept. 29.
