Out with the old and in with the new and fiery. Model and author Emily Ratajkwoski has said goodbye (for now, at least!) to her signature dark chocolate brunette hair and hello to what's bound to be this summer's hottest hair color shade: Glazed amber, a term coined by Ratajkwoski's go-to colorist, Jenna Perry.

"It's something Emily hasn't done before, and she wanted to be playful and do something fun for summer," Perry tells InStyle exclusively. The pro says Ratajkwoski messaged her a few weeks ago about changing up her signature shade and that they exchanged different pictures of red hair to figure out the perfect shade. Perry adds that while she goes into each treatment with a goal in mind, it isn't until she is with clients physically that she tailors the tone to what's most flattering for each client.

To craft the shade, Perry added a red gloss and wove highlights throughout Ratajkwoski's hair. "Because I know this is a temporary thing for Emily, I didn't want to do anything too permanent and high maintenance if she goes back to her classic brunette shade," she explains, adding that at-home care is simple but extremely important. She recommends using a color-depositing shampoo and conditioner and many glosses in between treatments to keep color looking fresh and vibrant. "Now that it's summer, this color is hard to maintain," she explains. "It can oxidize in the sun or through washing [many times]"

Only time will tell if the My Body author will take her new amber hue with her into the fall. Either way, she's only adding to the fever around crimson hair color. She's just the latest star to jump on the red hair train, following in the steps of Kendall Jenner, Megan Fox, and Sydney Sweeney, who have each taken on a walk on the fiery side. If you're considering making the jump, trust that Perry, a redhead herself, is totally here for it.

"[Red] is just so sultry and seductive; I love that it is still a trend, and these girls are doing it," says Perry. "It's so playful and fun!"
