Well, It Looks Like Cerulean Is Making a Comeback

Someone alert Miranda Priestly, because this trend is actually quite groundbreaking.

Listen, florals for spring may not exactly be groundbreaking, but seeing so many celebrities wearing cerulean at the tail end of 2021? That's a trend that even Miranda Priestly wouldn't be able to ignore.

We're, of course, referencing The Devil Wears Prada scene, when Meryl Streep's character — powerful magazine editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly — not-so-subtly explains the history behind a seemingly average color to Andy, her assistant (played by Anne Hathaway). From that point on, fans of the movie could never quite forget the specific shade of blue — which is why we can't help but notice that, 15 years later, it's making a major comeback.

The color's resurgence initially came to our attention back in September 2021, when Megan Fox wore it via monochromatic outfit while attending Moschino's fashion show. "Fun," we thought at first, not fully paying attention to the hue and choosing, instead, to focus on her flares, which were soaking up groundwater and triggering Y2K flashbacks.

It wasn't until months later, when Sarah Jessica Parker pulled a similar move on the set of And Just Like That..., that we began to notice cerulean's increased popularity.

Carrie Bradshaw's blue blazer dress and coordinating bag made us wonder if the future of fashion really did contain more cerulean. After all, this character has always been a trusted source of what's considered cool. Sure enough, looking back at the Spring '22 runways, the shade seemed to be a common thread. Cerulean designs popped up in collections by Prabal Gurung, Rodarte, Acne Studios, Tom Ford, and more.

While Andy's simple sweater from 2006 would still be perfect for our winter wardrobe, celebrities have been showing us there are plenty of fresh ways to wear cerulean today. Ahead, we've gathered a bit of outfit inspiration and proof that the color is making a major comeback.
