The higher the hair, the closer to god. Tonight at the 2024 Grammys, Miley Cyrus took her godmother Dolly Parton’s famous words to heart, serving up a larger-than-life hair moment above her gilded Maison Margiela dress. And it's a beauty moment sure to go down in the history books.

A nod to Barbarella, the 1960s space odyssey starring Jane Fonda, according to her hairstylist Bob Recine, Cyrus' sky-high bouffant featured va-va-voom height and a cascade of fanned-out layers.

“I wanted to create a look that felt fresh and modern while still drawing on inspiration from the past,” Recine tells InStyle. “The hair is teased out and big but still a little messy and touchable to feel sexy and help make Miley feel confident. We’re not hiding the teasing; it’s a little punky, which kind of brings it into today’s world.”

The secret to teasing and cementing it into place? The Nexxus Styling collection, and more specifically, blasts of  XXL Volume Hairspray to keep it in place all night long. “The finish is nice and soft while still giving me the strength that I need to make the hair stand and create the necessary volume for big hair like this,” says Recine.

For Cyrus, who brought the house down with her “Flowers” performance and is nominated six times for Endless Summer Vacation, it’s only natural she’d want a next-level hair moment for the momentous night. We can all agree: Her go-big-or-go-home energy has been contagious on all fronts.
