"To my surprise, the bowl cut went completely viral," says Adir Abergel. The celebrity hairstylist is referring the now iconic short cut he gave Charlize Theron this summer. Since the initial cut, the duo have demonstrated just how versatile short hair can be by reinventing Theron's now pixie length with different parts, slicked-back layers, longer pieces added to the front, and even covering up her grown-out roots on the red carpet with a diamond Tiffany bracelet.

"It's incredible when beauty can be viewed through hair in many different ways," Abergel tells InStyle in an email. "It is challenging to think of different ways to explore short hair, but it is endless when you start using your imagination."

For the 2020 Oscars, Abergel was inspired by the clean minimal lines of the Best Actress nominee's black Dior dress to give her beautiful, shiny hair. He styled her pixie with a deep side part and added a black threaded headband the back of her head, just above the nape of her neck.

Abergel added the detail by installing two matching extensions on both sides of Theron's hair, binding them with black thread and attaching them in the back in a half-moon shape.

What's more impressive than Theron's built-in hair accessory was how smooth and shiny her pixie cut looked on the red carpet. Abergel says he blow-dried the star's hair with Dyson's Supersonic Hair Dryer using the wide comb attachment and added a combination of Virtue Labs Unfrizz Cream and Healing Oil for an extra-shiny finish.

Once again, Theron and Abergel prove that there's more than one way to wear a pixie cut. And we're getting even closer to making the cut ourselves.
