Severe eye makeup took center stage at the 64th Annual Emmy Awards. Actresses including January Jones, Ginnifer Goodwin, and Lena Dunham all turned heads with bold, accentuated lids, keeping the rest of their makeup relatively understated so their peepers would pop. Want to add extra oomph to your eyes? The key is to start with a moisturizing primer to guarantee a no-smudge finish. Take notes from Jones's makeup artist, Rachel Goodwin, who looked to create a couture yet seductive winged lid. "I wanted her whole look to have a dramatic high fashion feel to it," she said. "Not passive but of real intentional glamour." Mission accomplished! To achieve the intense smoked lids, Goodwin blended Chanel's D'Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in Apparition (visit chanel.com for store locations) onto January's lash line and extended outward for a statement sweep. Goodwin then rimmed the top and bottom of the Mad Men star's eyes with charcoal eyeliner and blended with a soft tapered brush for a smoky kohl finish. Looking for an even more dramatic eye? Once Upon a Time actress Ginnifer Goodwin’s makeup artist, Mai Quynh, suggests outlining the top crease and lash with a liquid liner. Then, using a stiff eyeliner brush, wing a thick line to the end of your brows to create a bold Twiggy-inspired cat eye.
