Prince William and Kate Middleton Broke a Major Royal School Tradition This Year

It's back-to-school season across the pond, too.

In another move that's putting the Princess and Prince of Wales, AKA Kate Middleton and her husband, Prince William, squarely in the "royals are getting more modern, everyone" camp, Entertainment Tonight reports that the Cambridges are breaking with royal tradition with their latest move. According to ET, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis all started school on Wednesday, Sept. 6, at Lambrook School in the Berkshire countryside. That's cute and all, but that choice is a major shift from past royal picks, which saw William and his brother, Prince Harry, attend all-boys schools.

William and Harry attended the Wetherby School and Ludgrove School, which are both all-boys institutions. A source also explained to ET that in addition to being co-ed, Lambrook School has "ensured the privacy of the Prince and Princess of Wales for as long as their royal offspring are enrolled at the institution."

“The Prince and Princess of Wales though have done everything they can to insulate their children from the pressures of their future so they can enjoy a normal childhood,” the source said, adding that George, Charlotte, and Louis are also “slowly getting introduced to Royal engagements and could do their first Royal tour as a family of five in the next year.”

The three siblings initially started at Lambrook School in September 2022, after the Cambridges relocated to Windsor from Kensington Palace. Before the move, Charlotte and Louis were both enrolled at Thomas’s Battersea in London, while Louis was still too young and was attending nursery school at the time. Speaking at an event last year, Prince William revealed that George and Charlotte were “looking forward” to starting the school year at the Lambrook and had “lots of questions.”
