Taylor Swift and Brittany Mahomes's Friendship Timeline

The Spice Girls said it best: If you wanna be my lover, you gotta get with my friends. And Taylor Swift did just that when she started hanging out with Brittany Mahomes, the wife of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who is a teammate and best friend to the pop star's boyfriend, Travis Kelce.

It wasn't long before Taylor and Brittany forged a friendship of their own, going on girls' nights out, attending games, and choreographing secret handshakes. All signs point to a lasting position on Swift's squad. 

Ahead of the 2024 Super Bowl, take a look back at the full timeline of Swift and Mahomes's fast — and flourishing — friendship. 

September 30, 2023: Taylor Swift and Brittany Mahomes hang out publicly for the first time.

And so it begins! The night before the Chiefs-Jets game, Taylor and Brittany make their first public appearance together during a girls' night out at Emilio's Ballato in New York's Soho neighborhood. Two of Swift's other squad members, Sophie Turner and Blake Lively, joined them.

October 1, 2023: Taylor Swift and Brittany Mahomes are spotted at their first football game together. 

Keeping the momentum from their GNO going, Swift and Mahomes watched the Chiefs play against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium together the next day. Blake and Sophie also made an appearance in the stands, as did Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Sabrina Carpenter, and Antoni Porowski.

October 22, 2023: Taylor Swift and Brittany Mahomes debut their secret handshake.

Swift and Mahomes took their friendship to the next level with a special BFF handshake à la Annie James and Hallie Parker in the Parent Trap during the second quarter of the Chiefs-Chargers game. They debuted their choreographed routine — which saw them slapping the backs and fronts of their hands together five times and bumping hips — after the Chiefs scored a touchdown.

November 4, 2023: Brittany Mahomes joins Taylor Swift and her squad for a girls' night out in NYC.

Swift hosted yet another epic squad hang — this time, at Zero Bond, where she and Mahomes were joined by Selena Gomez, Sophie Turner, Gigi Hadid, and Cara Delevingne.

December 3, 2023: Taylor Swift and Brittany Mahomes reach the clothes-sharing stage of their friendship.

Taylor and Brittany showed off their BFF style while wearing coordinating red-and-black outfits at the Chief-Packers game. And if Swift's red teddy coat looks familiar, it's because Mahomes might have let her borrow it.

Back in November 2022, Brittany was photographed wearing a nearly-identical jacket when she was pregnant with her second child, Patrick “Bronze” Lavon Mahomes III.

January 14, 2024: Taylor Swift and Brittany Mahomes go Instagram official with matching Chiefs jackets.

Swift and Mahomes made their Instagram debut as BFFs while wearing matching Chiefs puffer jackets dedicated to their men.

"Twinning & Winning 💯," Brittany captioned a slideshow of cute pics that showed her and Taylor modeling their merch, which was designed by fellow WAG Kristin Juszczyk, wife of 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk. They both paired their coats with black pants, black boots, and white hats.

January 23, 2024: Taylor Swift and Brittany Mahomes catch up between games.

Taking their friendship outside the stands, Swift and Mahomes stepped out for a solo girls' night at Nobu in New York City, dressed in very Reputation-coded outfits.

January 30, 2024: Taylor Swift and Brittany Mahomes twin in matching baseball caps at the AFC Championship. 

Taylor and Brittany had yet another twinning moment at the AFC Championship game, where they wore matching baseball caps while cheering on the Chiefs.

Next stop, the Super Bowl.

February 2, 2024: Brittany Mahomes defends Taylor Swift against those who say she "ruined football."

Mahomes came to Swift's defense from the dads, Brads, and Chads who complained that the pop star "ruined football." Over on her Instagram Story, Brittany shared a quote from sports commentator Charles Barkley that read: "If you're screaming at Taylor Swift saying she ruined (football), you're just a loser."

Mahomes replied under the post, writing, "Let. Them. Know."
