Celebrity fashion trends fall into two categories: they’re either not very practical (think, the super naked dress trend), or they’re so easy to integrate into everyday life that I immediately add them to my fashion rotation. The leather mini skirt wave that I’m about to dive into belongs to the latter.

It seems almost as if everyone in Hollywood has been reaching for leather mini skirts, similar to this $25 Amazon find. Taylor Swift recently wore a Versace version, Selena Gomez dressed in a snake-effect look, Mariah Carey wore an all-black separate, and Hailey Bieber donned a maple-hued look. It makes sense, being that this sexy little number is both sleek and versatile. Wear leather minis, no matter their colors, with oversized blazers for a contrasting effect, layer them over a skin-tight bodysuit, or pair them with a chunky knit sweater for a mix of textiles. They’re fool-proof closet staples, adding texture to your look and taking the guesswork out of getting ready.

Leather skirts, like this House of CB option, can additionally be worn just about anywhere. Style one to work with a crisp white button-up and black pointed-toe pumps, wear it on a night out alongside a mesh top à la Swift, or dress it down with a crewneck and tennis shoes. Don’t be afraid to style it left and right either. Whether faux or real, the often thick and durable material helps these skirts last, leaving you with an investment piece that you'll wear again and again.

But don’t get it twisted: Even though leather minis are, well, mini, they’re great for winter. In fact, I’d even prefer wearing a leather skirt during the colder months over the heat, since leather often sticks to the skin during high temperatures and acts as a natural insulator. Simply slip on a pair of sheer tights underneath the iconic separate, and you’ve instantly turned a leggy display into a warm ‘fit. Take it a step further and reach for fleece-lined tights to create an optical illusion. They look just like regular stockings except with a large dose of extra coziness. A pair of knee-high boots won’t only elevate the leather skirt, but it will make the ensemble all the more winter-friendly.
