I view nail polish removers similarly to how I view face washes: they are all interchangeable until you find one that redefines what you thought the product could and should do. I never thought I’d have a favorite, or even a preferred, nail polish remover until I tried Dermelect’s new Extracts 3-in-1 Soy Nail Polish Remover.

My elevator pitch is that Dermelect’s Extracts feels like a cuticle oil and nail treatment that just so happens to also be a polish remover. That’s what the three-in-one in the name refers to — it removes polish, conditions and fortifies nails, and preps them for their next manicure. And yes, those are claims made by the brand, but my own testing confirms this hat trick of benefits.

My rationale behind reaching for one of the 10 individually packed Dermelect nail polish remover wipes was multifold. First, its nail concealer is the main reason I have embraced my natural nails and I’m therefore pretty psyched about any nail care product it adds to its lineup. Second, the planets don’t align very frequently when it comes to having both acetone and cotton pads at home — this 3-in-1 solves that issue. Lastly, it’s a very easy beauty product to test — one wipe is all I need to know if this is a keep or pass.

I unpackaged my wipe and removed the layers of nail concealer, polish, and top coat from all ten nails in five-ish minutes. There was nothing to it. The fabric is incredibly saturated in the oily formula, polishes come off quickly, and the wipe is big enough to get all 10 fingers without issue. That would honestly be good enough on its own but what I liked most was the aftermath. My nails did not feel super dehydrated, I didn’t experience that fleeting-but-still-gross wash acetone leaves behind. And, perhaps most exciting, I wasn’t left with dry nails full of ridges that required a bunch of upkeep and maintenance before I could apply a nail concealer to them again — I didn’t even need to buff my nails.

Usually I would not bother with the ingredients in a polish remover (I mean, there is not much to deconstruct in something that is 100 percent acetone) but my nails feel and look healthy after using this one precisely because of a smarter-than-usual formula.

First, there are peptides, which repair and soften brittle nails in addition to improving their growth. Studies have shown that soy has similar benefits. Vitamin E has nourishing and hydrating properties that span cross the board of different beauty concerns. When it comes specifically to nails, the ingredient neutralizes yellow discoloration. You’re getting all of these health benefits all the while removing the polish from your nails. It’s in a three-in-one that has me pretty convinced.

Dermelect’s Extracts 3-in-1 Soy Nail Polish Remover is now a must-have in my nail care routine right along with its Makeover concealer.
