King Charles Reportedly Has Returned to London for Cancer Treatment

King Charles III is back in London with his wife Camilla after first revealing he had cancer on Feb. 5.

On Tuesday morning, the royal couple was photographed in a car being driven to Clarence House, where they’ve long resided. It’s believed Charles is in town for another outpatient cancer treatment, which he began last week, per People. The type of cancer he’s battling has not yet been named.

The pair flew by helicopter from their Sandringham, Norfolk, country retreat to Buckingham Palace before being driven to Clarence House today, ABC News reports. Charles’s return to London followed a week of the couple relaxing at their country estate, according to the New York Post. It’s believed the king will head back to Sandringham after his treatment, the Post reports.

Since Charles’s cancer was revealed, the couple has been publicly spotted only once: at a Sunday church service at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham.

Charles safely underwent a “corrective procedure” for an enlarged prostate on January 26. Camilla, 76, said he was “doing well, thank you” shortly after the surgery, which was performed at the London Clinic hospital, per Associated Press. The Palace said his cancer is not related to the prostate condition he was treated for in January.

Charles, 75, released a statement on Saturday expressing his gratitude for the public’s outpouring of support in the wake of his diagnosis. In the statement, which was shared online, he said, "I would like to express my most heartfelt thanks for the many messages of support and good wishes I have received in recent days …” 

“It is equally heartening to hear how sharing my own diagnosis has helped promote public understanding and shine a light on the work of all those organizations which support cancer patients and their families across the U.K. and wider world.” The king took the throne just 16 months ago in the wake of the passing of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, in September 2022, and there’s a long line of successors to the throne waiting in the wings.

Camilla, for her part, is continuing with her royal engagements while her husband takes a break from public engagements to focus on state duties like signing papers, according to ABC News.
