Twenty-twenties fashion can sometimes feel like a big, dumb dog playing a game of fetch with all of the humiliating trends of years past we tried to hide in the woods. We might think we're rid of oversized waist belts and bubble skirts, but Gen Z knows where we buried the bodies.

The latest cringe-inducing flashback to be dropped on our doorstep? The shrug. Bella Hadid appears to have made it her mission this month to bring the nonsensical sleeved garment back into the zeitgeist, and damnit, it might just be working.

Two weeks ago, Hadid pulled together an ab-baring workout outfit with a $790 Alexander McQueen cashmere shrug that was certainly on the higher end of the spectrum for a product we remember buying from Lulu's at the mall. This week, Hadid struck again, stepping out in yet another workout fit featuring a red bra top, black shorts, red Salomon sneakers, and a roomier black shrug by an unidentified designer.

While flashbacks of the shrug circa 2005 recall it being paired with sundresses and lace-trimmed tanks and jeans, the cardigan's newfound role in sportswear is a better match than ever.
