Mariah Carey has always marched to the beat of her own drum. She wears gowns on the subway, refuses to renew her driver's license, and when giving birth to her twins Moroccan and Monroe, a live version of her song "Fantasy" played in the hospital suite. So, when it came time to get dressed for the 2024 Recording Academy Honors on Thursday night, you best believe the pop diva wasn't going to wear what everyone else was wearing.

Rather than a typical gown, Mariah, instead, opted to walk out onto the red carpet wearing basically nothing but her lingerie. For the occasion, the superstar paired a bronze-colored corset with a matching swathe of see-through tulle fabric that she wore as a skirt. Showing a whole lot of leg, the bottom portion of Mariah's outfit was sheer from the waist down and revealed a pair of bedazzled heels below. She accessorized with more sparkle, adding a diamond choker, bracelet, earrings, and a cartilage cuff to her look.

Her glam, which included a nude lip, brown smoky eyes, and a bronzy contour, matched the copper tones of her outfit, while her blonde hair was worn down in Old Hollywood waves with a side part.

At the event, Carey was honored with the Global Impact Award, a CEO Merit Award. According to the Recording Academy's press release, the honor “recognizes Black music creators whose dedication to the art form has greatly influenced the industry and whose legacy of service inspires countless individuals worldwide, celebrating those who, through leadership and passion, empower others to embrace their authentic selves and contribute to positive change."

While accepting the award on-stage, Mariah delivered a speech sprinkled with her signature brand of shade. "Is this a real Grammy? I haven’t seen one in soooooo long,” she said as she held the statue. “It’s weird. I don’t know,” Carey continued. “We’ll figure out what this is later.”
