Rihanna Showing Up Fashionably Late to the Golden Globes Is the Ultimate Power Move

Beyoncé's done it, too.

The rain in Los Angeles is not letting up, and judging by the hems on many of the dresses at the Golden Globes, it rained on more than a few of their parades.

Nominees were wrapped and draped in luxurious fabrics but were no match for the weather. Actresses from Viola Davis to Jenna Ortega fell victim to the elements, having to trudge through the abyss at the Beverly Hilton to get to the red carpet. Naturally, more than one star decided it wasn't worth the trouble — including, of course, Rihanna. The singer, who should be used to the rain (she even had a chart topping #1 hit about it — and check out Tom Holland’s lip sync to it for good measure) made sure she wasn’t papped in a soaked ensemble and showed up late to the ceremony, strolling in with ASAP Rocky well after the red carpet was over.

Wearing a vampiric velvet ensemble with puffed sleeves and a stunning diamond necklace, Rihanna looked positively regal. If you didn’t know it, showing up fashionably late is still very fashionable, and it’s the ultimate power move. Showing up late to an awards shows says that the ball is in your court, and no one is gonna see you panicking because your Savage x Fenty — who is, like, a very important designer — is drenched.

In fact, Rihanna is not the first to do this. After over a decade of not attending, in 2020 (before Miss Rona shut the world down), Beyoncé and her husband showed up late (with their own Ace of Spades champagne in tow) to the famed Beverly Hilton, nearly an hour into the Golden Globes. But when you’re Beyoncé (and Rihanna), you can do that. To be fair, Bey arrived in a gorgeous custom Schiaparelli Haute Couture gown, looking like a golden globe herself.

While Rihanna and ASAP Rocky may have had a night out on the town away from her adorable 8-month-old (we’re still waiting for photos of her dress), one thing I do know is — that Rihanna's reign just won’t let up.

Here's to hoping her upcoming SuperBowl performance is equally show-stopping — and that we get some new music from Rihanna soon.
