Selena Gomez Matched Her Sheer, Sequined Gown to Burgundy Lipstick at the 2024 Emmys

Last week, Selena Gomez shut down the Golden Globes red carpet in a fiery red high-low cocktail dress — and now, she's doing it all over again at the Emmy Awards. While Gomez isn't nominated in any acting categories tonight (more on that later), being a producer on Only Murders in the Building means that she can be recognized for the show and its Outstanding Comedy Series nomination. The show is also up for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series thanks to Martin Short, Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy Or Drama Series (Half-Hour) and Animation, Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, and Outstanding Cinematography for a Series (Half-Hour), among others.

Only Murders already took home the Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Program (Half-Hour) trophy last week at the Creative Arts Emmys ceremony.

Gomez's second standout look of awards season included a stunning strapless naked Oscar de la Renta gown embellished with oxblood-colored sequin leafy appliqués over the length of the entire dress, including its sheer skirt. She accessorized with a (very valuable) platinum pink sapphire, diamond, and morganite Bird on a Rock necklace from Jean Schlumberger by Tiffany, diamond stud earrings, a smattering of matching rings, and matching maroon sandal heels.

The actress opted for a sophisticated updo with a deep side part and Old Hollywood loose finger curls that framed one side of her face. For her glam, Selena chose a shimmery rose eyeshadow and a deep burgundy lip to coordinate with her gown.

This isn't the first time that Gomez has been snubbed from the acting category for the beloved Hulu series. In 2022, her co-stars got noms, but she didn't — and it didn't go unnoticed. Steve Martin released a statement on the matter, saying that Gomez is a crucial part of the show and that he's happy that she has a producing credit on Only Murders, which puts her in contention for other categories.

“Marty and I, and the whole team at Only Murders in the Building, are thrilled with our nominations,” he said in a statement back in 2022. “We’re also loving that our crucial partner, Selena Gomez, is recognized as a producer in the Best Comedy Series category.”

That year, the show earned 17 nominations, including recognition for Martin Short and guest stars Jane Lynch and Nathan Lane.

“We’re dismayed that Selena was not nominated because she’s so crucial to our performances, really," Martin continued.
