Kate Middleton and Prince William Have Reportedly“Moved on” From Rift With Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

The Royal couple are leaving 2023's drama behind.

Kate Middleton and Prince William are resolved to leave the past in the past, according to royal insiders, just in time for the New Year. Given that 2023 ended tumultuously for the Prince and Princess of Wales with a flurry of mini-scandals rooted in the couples' ongoing rift with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, it makes sense that the Waleses would want to start a fresh chapter in 2024.

While the reported issues between the Waleses and Sussexes have transfixed royal watchers for the past few years, it seems like couples on both sides of the Atlantic are finally ready to call it quits. "[Kate]’s moved on, and William has too,” a friend of Kate’s tells PEOPLE. “She’s very focused on what matters going forward. They aren’t looking back.”

In the last few months, Middleton has faced a barrage of scrutiny and media coverage that has seen the Princess's work ethic, marriage, and character being called into question. A mistranslated edition of Omid Scobie's Endgame saw the Princess of Wales named as one of two "royal racists," the moniker given by the British press to unnamed members of the royal family who questioned "how dark" Prince Archie's skin tone would be before his birth.

While that edition was subsequently pulled from shelves, Middleton was also referred to as cold and unwelcoming in the authorized edition. Then, of course, there's her appearance in The Crown (Season 6) to draw even more attention to the princess than usual.

According to royal sources, Middleton is keeping calm and carrying on. Insiders say the Princess has the support from family and friends required to make the most of her role in the royal family, as rumors continue to swirl. “She has close friends and family around her and a good relationship with her father-in-law [King Charles],” the source tells People, “that equip her going forward.”

“She has this public image of being nice and smiley," royal author Valentine Low says to People, “but she is actually strong-minded, strong-willed and prepared to fight." With the transatlantic feud supposedly in the Prince and Princess's rearview mirror, Middleton will likely continue to shine a line on her Early Years projects as well as embrace her first full year as the Princess of Wales, all while raising a family and looking effortlessly polished as she does so.
