Katie Holmes’s Sheer Velvet Maxidress and White Cowboy Boots Served Major ‘It’s My Birthday’ Energy

Katie Holmes has yet to meet a trend she can’t conquer. From turning heads in over-the-knee go-go boots with underwear and a trench coat to bringing back Y2K’s once-controversial dress-over-pants trend, the fashion icon has shown she can yassify just about anything. In honor of celebrating her 45th birthday, the actress just paired cowboy boots with a sheer maxidress.

Monday night, the actress-slash-director was photographed stepping out for a rare appearance with her daughter Suri (whom she shares with ex-Tom Cruise) in New York City. For her birthday celebration, Holmes donned a seriously sheer black velvet, feather-trimmed maxidress, which she layered with a white wool coat over her shoulders. A pair of white pointed-toe cowboy boots by Partlow and a black leather bag provided the finishing touches to her birthday ‘fit.

For her birthday glam, Holmes stuck to her signature little to no makeup look of rosy cheeks and glossy pink lips while she styled her dark brunette hair pin-straight.

In April, Holmes opened up about her role as a mother, telling Glamour, "What has been really important for me with my daughter, because she was so visible at a young age, is I really like to protect her."

"I'm very grateful to be a parent, to be her parent," she added. "She's an incredible person."

Very rarely does Holmes speak about her daughter in public, but in the interview she gave insight into their relationship, sharing, "I hope she always does something on my films. I always ask her."
