If There’s One Thing Taylor Swift’s Going to Do, It’s Wear This Outfit Combo

Sure, there are days when I’ll gladly try on my entire closet in the hopes of creating the perfect outfit, but most often, I just want to put on something I know I look and feel good in — without much thought. For me, that’s a timeless sweater, baggy jeans, and bold ballet flats. For Taylor Swift, it’s a full-length coat, knee-high boots, and a pop-of-color sweater dress.

Swift sported this combination in early fall when she stepped out with BFF Sophie Turner wearing a denim trench coat, red sweater dress with the shortest hem, and brown knee-high boots. It was a look that, TBH, I still think about; it was simple, chic, and, yes, kind of sexy. And like a true “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” girl, she revisited that same look earlier this week with some minor, seasonally friendly tweaks.

While out in New York, Swift gave that viral ‘fit a winter upgrade. On top, she opted for a double-breasted Stella McCartney wool coat and on bottom, she went with a pair of timeless black knee-high boots. But it was the bottom layer that I was most drawn to, because peeking out from underneath her camel-colored coat was a beautiful, jewel-toned sweater dress.

Between the two looks, Swift has completely convinced me that the one thing my closet is in dire need of is a cozy sweater dress. The star has taken the knit piece with her from season to season, with the staple looking just as good with a lightweight trench as it did with this week’s more winter-ready pairings. Plus, it adds something new and slightly more feminine to a season that typically favors warmth above style. Hers, however, checks off both, which is why it’s such an essential for this time of year.
