Despite being actual twins, Mary-Kate and Ashely Olsen may very well have written the handbook on how to coordinate a pair of outfits without fully twinning (see: Holiday in the Sun). And while legend has it that fashion historians are still taking notes on the 2001 cult classic as we speak, the Olsens just gave us a fresh round of synchronized style inspo during a rare joint outing in New York City.

On Thursday, the duo was spotted out and about in NYC’s streets, both wearing the one outerwear staple you need to make it through fall: a trench coat. While Ashley opted to sport a caramel-colored trench paired with flared blue jeans and a simple black T-shirt, Mary-Kate added a bit more color to her look by reaching for a burgundy velvet version paired with emerald green velour pants.

Although Mary-Kate and Ashley both accessorized their fall uniforms with long skinny scarves, sneakers, sunglasses, and croc-embossed leather handbags, they each displayed their individual styles by choosing varying color combinations and silhouettes. Ashley finished her look by pulling her hair into a low messy bun, while Ashley concealed her curly strands underneath a mustard beanie.

The sisters’ outing comes just months after it was revealed that Ashley secretly welcomed her first child with husband Louis Eisner earlier this year — a fact she managed to keep from the public and even some of her closest friends.

“She kept her pregnancy secret from a lot of friends and colleagues,” a source told Entertainment Tonight back in August. “Only a small circle knew.”

Mary-Kate, of course, was reportedly “beyond excited to have a new addition to the family,” and the source added that “having a family has always been a priority for Ashley and Louis.”

“Even though her upbringing was anything but typical, she does like some of the more traditional things," the source said, "For example, they wanted to be married first before starting a family.”
