I don’t know what I admire more about Dakota Johnson — her always-on-point hair or her always-on-point outfits. So, all I ask is… don’t make me choose, because I simply won’t be able to. In fact, her latest look is proof that her tresses and her outfits are worthy of awards. Hey, I don’t make the rule (though, in this case, I kind of did).

The actress was photographed out and about with Sophie Turner on a chilly New York City evening. Johnson clearly didn’t let the cold put a damper on her style, as her all-black, very New Yorker look hit on some of fall 2023’s biggest trends in one simple, chic, subtly sexy outfit. She wore a black satin skirt with an ultra-high front slit, simple black long-sleeve top that she tucked into her midi skirt, and a double-breasted wool coat because, well, duh. The two finishing touches were those knee-high black leather boots and a dumpling bag that rounded out her look with ease.

Her long brown tresses were ultra-shiny, her fringe looked perfect, and her subtle, signature, no-makeup makeup look with a rosy-pink lip was the perfect pairing for the understatedly elegant going-out look. And while I know I just said I can’t choose between her hair and her outfit (I can’t!!), the facets that really deserve extra mention are her accessories. Why? Because tall black boots and sweet dumpling bags are two of the biggest trends for fall 2023.

It’s basically every day that we see a new celebrity wearing tall black boots. I deemed them the only fall 2023 trend you have to try, and I wholeheartedly think this because the footwear really goes the extra mile, not to mention pairs well with everything and looks sleek yet sexy at the same time. The style is also highly practical, as it offers ample leg coverage when you prefer to go tights-free, just like Johnson. The subtle leg reveal added some allure to her high-slit skirt moment, while the velvety dumpling bag added a little something sweet.

Dumpling bags aren’t new this season — and Johnson isn’t the first celeb to carry the foodie-inspired tote around, nor will she be the last. Taylor Swift and Hailey Bieber came before her, carrying their own versions of the scooped bag around their arms. Johnson’s, however, introduced a fall-perfect embroidered version that pops against her all-black base pieces. Love!
