Despite being someone who is adamantly anti-Christmas music — until December 25, if I’m being Scrooge-levels of honest — I can’t stop thinking about holiday fashion. And no, not in an ugly-holiday-sweater type of way. My search history is filled with terms like “holiday party dress” and “chic winter outfits,” hoping to find the perfect look that’s festive but still practical. Mostly, though, I was just finding a lot of sequins. But, then earlier this week, Kendall Jenner convinced me to change my entire approach with her dress that was winter-ready in every way.

Jenner posted a mirror selfie on Instagram where she’s wearing a long, gray sweater dress from Proenza Schouler. In theory, the knit dress seemed pretty modest, with an asymmetric turtleneck and loose, elbow-length sleeves, but in reality, it was shockingly sexy thanks to a subtle front slit and that bodycon silhouette.

I immediately wanted the knit for everything that could come up now through January, because it’s not often that you find a dress that’s both chic and ready for whatever winter might throw your way. The thick material paired with the long hemline and high-neck made it remarkably practical — on mild days, you might not even need a coat — while the small, sophisticated details, including the asymmetry, ruching, and cinched waist, elevated it just a bit. The look can best be summed up as your go-to winter sweater, but sexier. And, proving it’s totally holiday party ready, Jenner styled hers with dramatic, dazzling earrings, timeless knee-high boots, and a dainty clutch.

Sweater dresses have been one of fall’s hottest styles — worn by Taylor Swift and Emily Ratajkowski — but more often than not, those looks leaned oversized and micro.
