It’s been hard to miss Naomi Watts on the streets of New York City in recent days — or rather, that Great Dane that’s been attached to her hip, which is actually her co-star in her upcoming movie.

Watts has been busy filming The Friend in NYC, a big screen adaption of the hit book that’s based on a woman’s bond with her Great Dane. And I’m sure anyone who has a dog knows just how special that bond can be (I do!). But I’m also particularly fond of her fashion on set; and while yes, I know it’s hard to look away from the big canine next to her, I advise you to take a peek at some of her city-strolling looks, too.

For the most recent on-set outing, Watts wore the most low key winter look that you definitely have in your closet. She reached for a red-hot wool coat that she tied at the waist, black wide-leg pants that subtly peeked out from underneath her topper, and short, black Uggs. It was simple but cozy and, most importantly, warm! But the standout moment came via her accessories: a gray beanie, the Great Dane (lol), and those black leather gloves that are the most underrated accessory of the season. Mark my words.

If you want to dress up a look, I guarantee that the first thing you think of is your jewelry — and that’s great! I’m not saying playing around with jewelry is the wrong way to elevate a look (it’s the correct way!); I’m simply offering another way to take a look from simple to glam-worthy: leather gloves. The accessory has been around for decades, but there’s been an uptick in interest in recent months — for the obvious reason that gloves are an essential to keep your hands warm in the wintertime, but also because the accessories, especially when designed in leather, give a luxe, rich-mom energy we could all use more of. At least I know I can.

Ready to give gloves a try? I’ll be adding a leather iteration into my wardrobe, stat, and I think you should, too.
